The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to making home ownership accessible to Nigerian workers, including staff of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC).
He gave the assurance while receiving executives of the NRC Workers’ Union, who paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja penultimate weekend.
Welcoming the delegation, Dangiwa commended the union leaders for their continued advocacy on behalf of their members and for prioritizing workers’ welfare, especially in the area of housing.
The minister emphasized that under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Housing Agenda, the administration is determined to ensure that every dedicated Nigerian worker can own a decent home before retirement.
“Our target is simple no hardworking Nigerian should retire without a roof over their head,” Dangiwa stated. “We are committed to making home ownership possible for all categories of workers, including employees of the Nigerian Railway Corporation.”
To fast-track this goal, the minister directed the NRC union leadership to compile and submit a comprehensive list of members interested in the ministry’s various housing initiatives.
He assured them that the ministry would explore suitable frameworks to integrate railway workers into existing and forthcoming social and affordable housing schemes across the country.
Earlier, the Chairman of the NRC Workers’ Union, Comrade Kazeem Yusuf, explained that the visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration with the ministry to secure housing opportunities for railway employees in Abuja and other major cities.
