COVID-19: UI Orders Closure Of Varsity, Commences Virtual Classes

The University of Ibadan, (U.I), has announced the suspension of all physical Academic activities in the premier institution especially in the College of Medicine with immediate effect until further notice.

The institution added that “All Academic Session should immediately proceed to virtual mode until further notice (The situation will be reviewed regularly).”

According to a circular signed by Olayinka O. Omigbodun, a Professor of psychiatry and Provost of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, “The Management of the Alexandra brown Hall (ABH) will immediately Commence Risk Assessment and Screening of all resident students.

This followed the reported increase in the rate of covid-19 infection among students in the college of Medicine, University of Ibadan, who are resident in the Alexandra brown Hall,  (ABH),the college expanded executive committee convened an emergency virtual meeting on Saturday,18 December,2021 at 8pm to discuss the situation and make recommendation to the Vice-chancellor.

Upon receipt of the recommendations, the Vice-chancellor convened an Emergency meeting on Wednesday, 22 December,2021 and the following decisions were taken for immediate implementation:

“Students are encouraged to proceed home for the festive season to decongest the hall.”

“Arrangements are being put in place to isolate students who are covid-19 positive and provide treatment to those who are symptomatic,” the circular added.
