The Housing Development Advocacy Network (HDAN) in collaboration with Platinum Mortgage Bank Limited has distributed relief packages to support 250 families in two communities in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.
The relief package which consists food items was distributed to families in Kabusa and Damagaza communities as part of efforts to provide food for the most vulnerable people affected by the COVID-19 lockdown in the territory.
While participating the in distribution of the food items, the President of HDAN, Barr. Festus Adebayo expressed sympathy for the most vulnerable groups in the society, especially at this time of the COVID-19 lockdown, adding that the poor and less privileged class are in unimaginable hardship as their petty means of livelihood has been taken from them, leaving them vulnerable to, not only being killed by COVID-19, but also severe hunger.
Adebayo, who was supported in the distribution by his ever committed members of staff, stated that a large percentage of Nigerians depend on their daily income for feeding and sustenance of themselves and their family and the average Nigerian income earner has not less than three persons depending on him or her for survival, making the situation worse.
“This COVID-19 pandemic has truly brought untold hardship upon Nigerians. At this time, our people are vulnerable to either contracting the virus or dying of hunger- none of which can be imagined. The least we can do is to support them with these relief packages so as to cushion the effects of the lockdown. he said”
According to Adebayo, it is death sentence for people to remain in their homes and not have what to feed on, hence there is the need for well-to-do Nigerians to help the poor and assist the government in its fight against the Coronavirus pandemic being experienced world over.
The HDAN boss who stated that the group in collaboration with other prominent organizations will do its bit in providing succour in the situation, also promised that more support would be given to vulnerable people in coming weeks.
