The Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area has commenced extensive road rehabilitation and rolled out food support to vulnerable households under its Apo Ariyo welfare initiative.
At the flag-off of the Durbar Junction Road redesign project in Mile 2, Council Chairman, Prince Lanre Sanusi, said the programme reflects the administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure and the living conditions of residents.
He described the Durbar Junction project as part of a broader urban renewal plan, which includes the construction of a gate and gatehouse, perimeter fencing, median beautification, and general road repairs.
Other roads scheduled for rehabilitation include First, Second, and Seventh Avenues, Agboju Market Road, and sections of Alakija.
Sanusi explained that the new gate at Durbar Junction would enhance community security and regulate traffic movement. “Our inner roads will receive more attention. Some repairs are ongoing, but the rains have slowed down progress,” he noted.
He cautioned commercial tricycle operators against double parking and assured residents that all major roads in the area would become fully motorable before the end of the year. “This is not about politics but service to our people,” the chairman added.
As part of the council’s welfare drive, food packs containing rice, beans, and garri were distributed to 1,500 households, with 500 additional packages reserved for later distribution.
Sanusi said the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at cushioning the effects of economic hardship on citizens.
“Next month’s package will be bigger, and the December edition will reach even more families as the festive season approaches,” he assured.
