Constituency Projects: We’ve Asked State Govs To Take Over These Projects

Abuja (Sundiata Post) – Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola on Thursday informed that the Ministry has written letters to state governors to take over schools, hospitals and other facilities completed but lying fallow across the country build by legislatures under constituency projects.

Fashola disclosed this when the Senate Committee on Works and Housing visited his Ministry for oversight function.

There are projects and facilities across the state ranging from schools, hospitals and other which have not been put to use and the ministry has written the state governors to put such facilities/property to use.

Fashola further informed that one of their two main partners namely: Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) and National Housing Authority (NHA).

According to him, “The FMBN was created by law to provide funding for the provision of affordable houses for citizens across the country.

There is provision through the FMBN for N5 million and above N5m for citizens to be able to own a house. However, in the past, experience has shown that the 10% equity expected from the beneficiary has been difficult for them to raise.

The Minister also noted that the ministry has created a special project committee for better coordination of the projects of the ministry.

Earlier, the senate committee led by Senator Sam Egwu and his team had in their opening remarks, told the gathering that they are at the ministry to perform their statutory duty which is to know how far the ministry has gone with the implementation of its budgets.

Senator Egwu asked him to give the overview of what the ministry has done so far for the committee to know.
