ABUJA – In a bid to further improve on its infrastructure stock, IS, improve City Resilience, CR, and make suburbs and contiguous states more accessible, the country’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved over $ 63million for the implementation of five road projects in Abuja.
This is according to Mohammed Bello, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Bello revealed this a while ago during a briefing of State House correspondents.
IS and CR are indicators that pulls in investment into a locale. CR measures the strength of a city in face of disaster and emergency which is greatly improved on by the presence of infrastructure.
Even more, IS enhances better utilisation of man hour, accessibility to markets and services.
Explaining how it was able to manage the fit on securing the money for the project, the minister said: “the Ministry of the FCT presented five memos at today’s meeting and all have to do with the road infrastructure.
“Three of the memos concern projects within the FCT itself, and two within the area councils particularly Bwari and Gwagwalada,” said minister Bello.
According to the FCT minister, of the $63m plus, approximately $8.2m were set aside for the provision of an access road to the institutions and research district in Abuja.
This is where the Nigerian War College, the Legislative and Judiciary Institute, among other public and private organisations are situated.
About $ 4.4illion will be dedicated to the construction of an access road and car park for the rail station, located at Kagini.
The access road is meant to link the community to the Kubwa expressway, to enable commuters to use facilities of the rail station and the Abuja light rail. This project will be executed within 12 months.
$39m or its thereabouts will support the ongoing construction of the Southern parkway.
The road stretches from the National Christian Centre, through the NTA, FCDA facility, crossing Muhammadu Buhari way in Garki, all the way to the ring road in Kaura District. This project is set to be completed within 24 months.
For the area councils, the minister said that about US$ 3.4 was approved for the rehabilitation of the road passing through the Nigerian Law School in Bwari to Kuchiko, and eventually Aja communities.
