Twenty seven school children and others who were kidnapped at Kagara Government School on Wednesday by armed bandits have been released.

This comes after several deliberations and a wide outcry from both the local civil societies and the foreign community driving the federal government to plunge into the matter.

It was further learnt that the students gained their freedom after Sheikh Ahmad Gumi had met and dialogued with the leader of the bandits identified as Dogo Gide in conjunction with some of his members after what seems to be a long hours before the two parties could reach a truce.

A list which emanated from the State Ministry of Education showed 27 students were abducted alongside five staff and nine members of their families, making a total of 41 persons abducted from the school.

Earlier on Wednesday morning, armed men had attacked the Government Science College Kagara in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State shooting sporadically.

A student Benjamin Habila was shot and killed by the bandits on the school premises while several others abducted.

Joy has however returned to the families involved after news reports filtered on Friday morning that they had been freed from captivity.
