A new BusinessDay Talk Exchange poll on the State of Housing in Nigeria has revealed that about seven in 10 Nigerian workers spend 40 percent or more of their annual income on rent and housing-related expenses.
According to the survey, 72 percent of respondents said they use between four and six months’ worth of their salaries to pay rent equivalent to roughly 40 percent of their yearly earnings.
The findings highlight growing concerns about housing affordability and sustainability, as many households continue to struggle with rent payments while also meeting other basic needs such as food, healthcare, and education.
