National Arts Theatre To Open In November – Lai Mohammed

The National Arts Theatre Complex’s ongoing renovations will be completed and inaugurated in November, according to Minister of Information Lai Mohammed.

Mohammed commented on Saturday after touring the facility and inspecting the work that has been done thus far.

Mohammed also lauded the Lagos State Government for providing the enabling environment, especially

in the areas of rail transportation and the usage of the waterways.

“From what we have seen, a lot of work has been undertaken here since our last visit in December 2021.

“We are satisfied with the progress that has been made. We are hopeful. And we have crossed the rubicon.

“By the time we return in two months, we’ll all notice that a lot of work has been buried,” he said.

Nigerians may rest certain that the rehabilitation project will not be “abandoned.”

Mr. Godwin Emefiele, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), also spoke, estimating that the initiative will cost the Bankers’ Committee some $100 million.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the bankers’ committee estimates that this project will cost around $100 million. More money will be put into this project, but it will be a business where the money will be repaid.

“I’m delighted that international investors have already expressed an interest.

“I’d want to state for the record that we’ve gotten inquiries from investors in the United States who want to look at not only the National Arts Theatre, but also the creative prospects that we’re generating around here.”

“I must say, this is thrilling for us at the Bankers’ Committee and the Central Bank of Nigeria,” he remarked.

He went on to say that President Muhammadu Buhari would lay the groundwork for the four verticals — music, film, information technology, and the fashion hub – on the day of the inauguration.

He expressed his gratitude to the Lagos State Government for its active support of the project and expressed his delight with the progress made thus far.
