A middle-aged man, identified as Khalid Bichi, was tragically shot dead by unknown gunmen in Maitama, Abuja, on Friday night.

Bichi, an employee of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, was reportedly attacked just before 9 pm while he was out to get food.

Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers shot Bichi multiple times before fleeing the scene. He was quickly rushed to Maitama General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Bichi, known for his active presence on social media with the username @Khalid Bichi, reportedly had connections with influential politicians.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, confirmed that the police are currently investigating the matter.

Funeral arrangements were swiftly made, and Bichi was laid to rest on Saturday afternoon after a funeral prayer at Abuja National Mosque.

In response to the tragic incident, Dare Adekanmbi, the Special Adviser on Media to the FIRS executive chairman, Zacch Adedeji, expressed shock and condolences, stating, “We are yet to get the details. We are just reading about the incident on social media, news blogs, and others. The management will wade into the matter, and if necessary, we would get in touch with the IG to help us unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.”

He added, “Of course, the chairman of FIRS prioritizes the welfare of every staff member. The chairman is very sad that the incident happened.

He conveys his condolences to the family and the wife and assures them that FIRS will stand by them in this trying time.”
