Two children have been killed while several others were hospitalised after buildings collapsed in Gandun Sarki community, Hadejia Local Government Area of Jigawa State, following a heavy downpour.
The incident occurred after rainfall lasting for more than an hour across parts of the Hadejia Senatorial District, resulting in widespread flooding and the collapse of more than 20 houses in the community.
The collapse affected several buildings in the area, leaving residents searching for affected persons and those trapped beneath the structures.
Two children were confirmed dead in the incident, while other victims sustained injuries and were taken to hospital for medical treatment.
The downpour reportedly caused significant flooding across communities in the area, weakening buildings and contributing to the collapse of several structures.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about the condition of buildings in communities affected by flooding, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.
More than 20 houses were reportedly affected in Gandun Sarki following the downpour, with residents facing the consequences of the flooding and structural damage.
Authorities and residents were involved in efforts to respond to the incident and assist those affected by the building collapses.
The development adds to concerns over the impact of flooding and extreme weather conditions on communities across Nigeria, particularly where buildings and infrastructure may be vulnerable to prolonged or intense rainfall.
