Trina Solar Expands to Nigeria, Appoints Distributor

Trina Solar Company Limited is increasing its footprint and presence in the Middle East and Africa to cater to the rapidly growing demand for solar energy in the region. 

Through a commitment to innovative research and development, Trina Solar continues to set industry standards and benchmarks for performance and sustainability. 

‘’We have been responsible for a number of global breakthroughs, having set twenty world records for silicon cell efficiency and solar module power output since 2011’’, the company boasts on its website.

This leading global PV and smart energy total solution provider, has announced the signing of an official distributor agreement with Solar Power Etal to supply Trina Solar’s products and solutions in Nigeria.

With Nigeria having enormous solar energy potential, this agreement will ensure the availability of Trina Solar’s tier 1 PV modules in this key West African market and will further boost the company’s ambitious expansion across the continent.

Managing Director and Vice President for Trina Solar MEA, Antonio Jimenez, says “the region is clearly witnessing a significant boom in the renewable energy industry and we are already seeing a big rise in demand for solar power across Middle East & Africa with Trina Solar aiming to capture a big share of the solar energy market in this region. 

‘’We are focusing on delivering innovative, reliable products with the highest quality standards and the backing of Trina Solar as a strong, bankable brand, in addition to reliability and flawless customer service as part of our ‘Customer-centric’ core value – Customers success is our own success.”

According to The Middle East Solar Industry Association (MESIA), the Middle East and North Africa region alone has a prospected energy investment that could hit $1 trillion between 2019 and 2023.

Adding, Jimenez says, “we are confident that our smart energy solutions along with our ambitious growth plans will enable us to become one of the top providers for a lot of the solar energy projects that will take place across the Middle East & Africa region.” 

Managing Director of Solar Power Etal, Akinlolu Ajayi-Obe, on his part said, “we are looking forward to working with Trina Solar as authorized distributor towards accelerating the adoption of clean energy in Nigeria. 

‘’As one of Africa’s dominant countries, with the highest population and one of the greatest GDP on the continent, Nigeria has the economic strength and environmental conditions to be a key player in solar power. Our partnership with Trina Solar will now enable us to offer the best quality solar energy solutions in the Nigerian market.”

Trina Solar recently published its 2020 full-year financial results announcing an operating revenue of $4.429 billion and achieving net income attributable to shareholders of $188 million. The company’s total module capacity reached 22GW in 2020, and module shipments reached 15.915GW, ranking third in the world, tally to the 2020 annual shipment guidance published in Q3 2020 by IHS Markit.

Trina Solar currently has over 66GW of module shipments worldwide with more than 5GW of accumulative grid connections and is also proudly responsible for setting twenty world records for silicon cell efficiency and solar module power output since 2011.
