President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially renamed the University of Maiduguri after his predecessor, the late former President Muhammadu Buhari. The institution will now be known as Muhammadu Buhari University, in tribute to the late leader’s legacy.
The announcement was made during a special session of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) held in Abuja on Wednesday, dedicated to honouring Buhari’s memory following his recent passing.
In his remarks, President Tinubu praised Buhari as a man of integrity and discipline, noting that although no leader is without flaws, Buhari exemplified humility in leadership and unwavering commitment to national service.
“President Buhari was not a perfect man no leader is but he was, in every sense, a good, decent, and honourable man,” Tinubu said. “His record will be debated, as all legacies are, but the character he brought to public life and the incorruptible standard he represented will not be forgotten.”
He described Buhari’s life as one marked by devotion to God and fidelity to Nigeria, urging the nation’s current leaders to draw inspiration from his example.
“Let us honour him not only with words, but with humility in power, discipline in service, compassion in governance, and fearlessness in the pursuit of justice,” he added.
The renaming of the University of Maiduguri marks a significant symbolic gesture and ensures Buhari’s name will remain prominent in Nigeria’s academic and national histor
