By This coming June, the new mini-stadium valued at $173,913.04 is expected to be in use in Janjanbureh, Central River Region, The Gambia.
Minister of Youth and Sports, Bakary Y. Badjie recently laid the foundation stone to mark the start of construction work.
Construction of the stadium is fully funded by the government of The Gambia through the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The original plan for the project which began last December was to be completed within six months.

This is the third laying of a foundation stone for mini stadia in the country and the second in CRR. Kafuta in Kombo East, West Coast Region; Fulabantang in Lower Fulladu West and Janjanbureh in the Central River Region are the respective beneficiaries.

The government recently laid a foundation stone to another similar project in Kafuta village.

In that particular ceremony, the newly appointed Youth and Sports minister assured the youth that Gambian leader Adama Barrow and the entire government remains committed to the issue of youth.

He added that they will continue to make sports development a nation’s priority by creating the enabling policy environment and development ventures that will advance this great country.

Executive Director of National Sports Council, Marcel Mendy, expressed appreciation to the Gambia government for what he described as ‘a wonderful project’ for the people.

“This project is very much in line with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and National Sports Council sports development agenda.

”We believe that for the country to make it to the top in terms of sports there should be an investment into sports infrastructural development”, he said.
