Operations at Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 1 were momentarily disrupted on Wednesday morning following an incident involving Senator Adams Oshiomhole, former Edo State governor and current lawmaker.
The disturbance reportedly occurred after the senator arrived late for Air Peace Flight P47120, which was scheduled to depart Lagos for Abuja at 6:30 a.m. Sources say Oshiomhole reached the terminal at around 6:10 a.m., just as boarding had closed and final checks were being completed.
According to a statement issued by the airline, the flight took off as scheduled, adhering to its on time departure policy. The airline claims that upon realizing he had missed the flight, the senator reacted angrily, confronting staff and disrupting passenger movement within the terminal.
Air Peace, in its public statement, condemned what it described as “unruly conduct” from a “prominent Nigerian politician,” alleging that the individual physically engaged staff members and obstructed access to the terminal by blocking the entry gate.
The airline added that the disruption affected other scheduled operations and inconvenienced multiple travelers. A swift operational adjustment was reportedly carried out by Air Peace to redirect affected passengers through an alternative terminal to ensure their trips proceeded as planned.
“This behavior is completely unacceptable,” the airline said. “No individual, regardless of their status, is above the rules. We stand firmly for discipline, integrity, and respect for aviation protocols.”
Air Peace reiterated its zer -tolerance stance on violence and called on all travelers to act responsibly, emphasizing that strict adherence to aviation schedules and safety procedures is non-negotiable.
As of press time, neither Senator Oshiomhole nor his representatives had issued a public response regarding the incident.
