Suspected Suicide Bomber Killed in Attempted Attack Near Abuja Military Barracks

A suspected suicide bomber was killed on Monday, May 26, 2025, when an improvised explosive device (IED) he was carrying detonated near the Mogadishu Cantonment, commonly known as Abacha Barracks, along the Nyanya-Mararaba road in Abuja. The explosion occurred around 2:50 PM, causing panic among residents and commuters in the vicinity.

According to reports, the suspect was attempting to infiltrate the military facility when he was intercepted by vigilant military personnel. Upon being directed to move away from the checkpoint, the IED exploded, killing the suspect instantly. Two other individuals sustained injuries and were promptly taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command confirmed the incident and stated that the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit was immediately deployed to the scene. The area was cordoned off for clearance and forensic analysis to ensure the safety of commuters and residents. A comprehensive investigation is underway to determine the exact cause and nature of the explosion.


The Nigerian Army acknowledged the incident via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, assuring the public that the situation is under control.

Authorities have urged residents to remain calm and vigilant, encouraging the public to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or through the following emergency numbers: 08032003913, 08028940883, and 07057337653.

This incident highlights ongoing security challenges in the region and underscores the importance of community vigilance in preventing such attacks.
