Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has approved the establishment of a rehabilitation centre in Nibo, Awka South Local Government Area, as part of a broader plan to improve mental health care and social reintegration services in the state.
The decision was made during a recent executive council meeting chaired by the governor. According to the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, the centre is intended to support individuals transitioning from asylums by providing structured rehabilitation services that promote full recovery before reuniting them with their families and communities.
The project, awarded to Triseconds Resources Ltd., comes at a cost of ₦417.32 million and is expected to fill a long-standing gap in the state’s healthcare system.
In the same council meeting, attention turned to the proposed Anambra Rebirth Programme, which aims to redefine core societal values and tackle social decay.
The council resolved that the programme must reinforce traditional systems like the Igbo apprenticeship model, promote integrity and hard work, and challenge the growing culture of wealth without legitimate enterprise. Other targets include cracking down on the public display of obscene wealth and reshaping distorted ideals of success.
Several other key infrastructure contracts were also approved during the session. These include ₦72.6 million for the expansion and relocation of the Solution Hub and Park at Aroma Junction in Awka; ₦414.9 million for beautification and structural works around the Ekwulobia Flyover, including new walkways and landscaping.
Further allocations included ₦340.94 million for additional work on a six-courtroom High Court complex to be handled by Hemebs Construction Ltd., and ₦790.25 million for the completion of 17 new residential units at the Commissioners’ Quarters, being managed by O Ben Developers Ltd.
Another ₦62.86 million was approved for extra perimeter fencing and water drainage structures at the Safari Park in Agulu Lake, to be executed by B & O Ltd.
Commissioner Mefor also announced that the much-anticipated Solution Fun City, developed under the Soludo administration, is set to open officially this Saturday. The launch event is expected to feature high-profile performances from Anambra-born musical stars, including Flavour and the Umu Obiligbo duo.
These decisions underscore the Soludo administration’s expanding footprint in healthcare, cultural reform, and infrastructure development as the state government works to reshape Anambra’s socio-economic landscape.
