The Sokoto State Government has approved a ₦38.8 billion reallocation within its 2025 budget to improve fiscal efficiency and accelerate project delivery.
The decision, taken at the State Executive Council meeting on Tuesday, does not alter the budget size of ₦526.88 billion but redirects funds from underperforming allocations to priority sectors.
Commissioner for Budget and Economic Development, Dr. Abubakar Zayanna, explained that the move was aimed at ensuring a more pragmatic and result-driven approach to governance. “We simply moved resources from dormant codes to areas where revenue performance exceeded projections. This way, every naira works for the people,” he said.
He added that the adjustment, in line with fiscal management rules, was designed to raise budget performance levels to about 70–80 percent before year-end.
As part of the council’s decisions, contracts were also approved for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of Ali-Akilu Road and Abdullahi Podi Road. The works are expected to address flooding challenges, improve drainage, and protect communities vulnerable to heavy rainfall.
Officials noted that the amended fiscal framework will be transmitted to the Sokoto State House of Assembly for legislative approval before implementation.
