The House of Representatives on Tuesday approved an extension of the implementation period for the 2024 Appropriation Act, shifting the deadline from June 30, 2025, to December 31, 2025.
The move, initiated through a proposed amendment bill, aims to allow for continued execution of capital projects outlined in the 2024 national budget. The motion was presented by the House Majority Leader, Hon. Julius Ihonvbere, and delivered on his behalf by Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Abdullahi Halim.
Lawmakers were urged to support the extension to ensure ongoing capital projects across the country can be completed without legislative roadblocks.
Speaker of the House, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, in his remarks, noted that the 2024 budget has not yet received full funding, making the extension necessary to facilitate continued project execution and fund disbursement.
Following debate, the motion passed without opposition and was referred to the Committee on Supply for clause-by-clause review.
In a related development during plenary, the House also received the report from the Committee on Customs and Excise concerning the projected revenue and expenditure framework of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) for the 2025 fiscal year.
The report, presented by Committee Chairman Hon. Leke Abejide, projected a total revenue of ₦1.13 trillion for the Customs Service in 2025. Key components of the budget include ₦1.07 trillion derived from 4% Free on Board (FOB) Cost of Service, ₦33 billion from a 2% share of import VAT, ₦29 billion for ongoing capital projects, ₦247 billion for personnel costs, ₦239 billion for overheads, and ₦645 billion allocated to capital expenses.
The report was laid before the House for further consideration at the Committee of Supply level.
