Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN) are set to hold the first Lateef Jakande Annual Lecture on Housing.

According to REDAN spokesperson, Festus Adebayo, arrangements have been finalised by the National Executive Council of REDAN to institutionalise the contribution of Alhaji Lateef Jakande to housing development in Nigeria with an annual lecture series.

The event which will take place on the 21st November 2019 at The Haven AVMC Compound, Oba Akinjobi Way, Ikeja, Lagos will be attended by developers, engineers, architects, surveyors, town planners, and all relevant stakeholders in housing.

According to Adebayo, Lateef Jakande’s achievement in the area of housing, especially when he was the governor of Lagos state from 1979 to 1983 is unparalleled.

He said, ‘’the council looked critically at his contribution to home ownership in Lagos where houses he provided are still providing succour to thousands of Nigerians after many years. The council therefore consider it necessary to institutionalise an annual lecture series in his honour which will be proffering solutions to housing issues and recommending ideas that will advance Nigeria housing sector.’’

Given his significant contributions, Adebayo believes that Lateef Jakande who was the pioneer president of REDAN is very befitting of such an honour from an organisation he once led successfully. It is an appreciation of his immense contributions, he said.

‘’There is no better gift stakeholders can give to Alhaji Jakande for his meritorious service over the years than to celebrate him while he is still alive. Even though this was an idea by REDAN, the annual lecture is for all the stakeholders and professionals in the industry to celebrate what Jakande stands for,’’ he said.

The Guest speaker of this first lecture is Former Chief Economic Adviser ro the President/Minister of National Planning, Professor Osita Ogbu, while the Chairman of the Occasion is Mallam Ibrahim Aliyu, the Chairman of Urban Shelter Limited.

The Special Guests of honour will be led by the Governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, past Governors of the State, former Ministers of Works and Housing.

The chief host of the lecture is the President of REDAN, Rev. Ugochukwu Chime.
