President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on May 27, 2025, addressed the nation in celebration of National Children’s Day, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to protecting Nigerian children and promoting a bullying-free environment.
Themed “Stand Up, Speak Up: Building a Bullying-Free Generation,” the President highlighted alarming statistics, noting that approximately 65% of Nigerian school-age children have experienced some form of bullying. He stressed that such conditions are unacceptable and detrimental to children’s development.
To combat this, President Tinubu launched the “See Something, Say Something, Do Something” campaign, encouraging community involvement in child protection efforts. He reaffirmed the administration’s dedication to the National Plan of Action on Ending Violence Against Children (2024–2030), which outlines strategies for prevention, prosecution of offenders, and victim support.
Further measures include the review of the Child Rights Act (2003) and the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act (2015) to enhance child protection laws. The President also announced the scaling up of the Child Protection Information Management System (CPIMS) for real-time tracking of abuse cases and the strengthening of community-based child protection mechanisms by the Ministry of Women’s Affairs.
In his message, President Tinubu called upon all stakeholders—parents, educators, faith leaders, and citizens to actively participate in creating a safe and nurturing environment for children, underscoring that the well-being of the nation’s youth is a collective responsibility.
