President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been honoured with the prestigious Lifetime African Achievement Award by the Millennium Excellence Foundation in Ghana.
The award was presented during the 25th Anniversary of the Millennium Excellence Prize at a ceremony held at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, Ghana. Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, represented President Tinubu and received the award on his behalf.
In his message, President Tinubu expressed gratitude to the Life Patron of the Millennium Excellence Foundation, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, for the invitation and the successful organisation of the event. He commended the foundation for its commitment to recognising and celebrating individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of Africa. He also highlighted the importance of honouring those who have lifted the continent and inspired future generations.
The Millennium Excellence Prize, established in 1988, aims to identify, celebrate, and support individuals who have distinguished themselves in the pursuit of African development. Over the years, the award has recognised notable figures such as the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Professor Wole Soyinka, President Cyril Ramaphosa, and Dr. Mo Ibrahim, among others.
During the ceremony, other distinguished individuals were also honoured. Dr. Benedict Oramah, President and Chairman of the Board of the African Export-Import Bank (AFREXIM), received the Global Intra-African Trade Excellence Award. Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, was recognised with the Lifetime Africa Achievement Prize for Governance and Public Service. Alhaji AbdulSamad Rabiu, Founder and Chairman of BUA Group, received the African Excellence in Business Award. Mr. Dumo Lulu-Briggs was honoured with the African Traditional Leadership and Business Excellence Award.
President Tinubu’s recognition underscores his commitment to fostering unity, peace, and prosperity across Africa. His leadership continues to inspire efforts towards a more integrated and developed continent.
