Police Nab Man For Impersonating FCT Minister

The FCT Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man Mohammed Bello Kolo for parading himself as the Minister of the FCT, Malam Muhammed Bello, and defrauding unsuspecting members of the public.

Parading the suspect before journalists, Wednesday at the command headquarters in Abuja, the Commissioner of Police in charge of the FCT, CP Bala Ciroma, said Kolo was arrested following received on October 28, 2019.

He said, “Following a complaint received on October 28, 2019, Police operatives attached to State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) of the FCT Command arrested one Mohammed Bello Kolo, 27, who has been parading himself as the Minister of FCT, Mallam Muhammed Musa Bello, and defrauding unsuspecting members of the public.

“In the course of impersonating the minister he has so far defrauded his victim of N52 million, which he allegedly received in installments under pretence of giving them contracts.”

According to the police boss, “The suspect stated that he had access to classified information while he served at the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) during his National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) attachment.”

He said exhibits recovered from the suspect include: one Peugeot 206 with Reg. No. ABJ 856 SU; one tricycle with Reg. No. KEF 807 WT; one 55’’ and 46’’ Samsung Plasma TV; one dining set; 10000 watts Fireman generator set; one washing machine; Hisense deep freezer, which the suspect claimed to have purchased from the money he received.

Ciroma said efforts were in place to arrest the suspects cohorts, simply identified as Simon and Idris, who reportedly posed as the Director of Procurement FCTA and PA to the Minister respectively.

He said the suspects would be arraigned in court on conclusion of investigation to serve as a deterrent to others.
