To boost affordable housing supply for residents, the Oyo State Government plans to create new housing estates in the five geo-political zones.

The Chairman, state’s housing corporation, Bayo Lawal, stated this during the presentation of award to him by Prime media group in Ibadan.

Lawal said the five estates would be situated in Ogbomoso, Saki, Iseyin, Eruwa and Kishi, adding that the project is in line with the developmental agenda of the Seyi Makinde administration.

He emphasised that the project planned for 2022, would drive development in the locations.

He said: “We have estate in all the 33 local governments. Many people believe that the state Housing Corporation starts and ends at the headquarters. We want you to help us create awareness that we have estates in Ibadan, Ajoda, Owode, Olubadan and Bashorun.

“We are an organisation, building social housing and creating plots of land for the downtrodden in the society.”

He added: “We are rebuilding what can be described dilapidated houses. These buildings cannot be qualified as standard buildings because they lack necessary amenities such as sewage disposal system, water, open space and electricity in the building. We want to encourage younger ones to move out and live in more decent houses than the ones built by our fathers.”

He lamented the expensive nature of private property in the state and urged residents to approach the corporation to mitigate the challenge.

The chairman further assured the media of continued partnership to ensure information about the corporation activities.
