The Oyo State Government, through its Ministry of Investment, Trade, Cooperatives and Industry, has announced a new partnership with the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) aimed at improving compliance with haulage fee payments across the state.

The announcement was made during an official visit by a delegation from the ministry to the MAN Secretariat located in Jericho, Ibadan. The Commissioner for Investment, Trade, Cooperatives and Industry, Adeniyi Adebisi, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Olajide Okesade, led the delegation.

According to Adebisi, the visit was part of efforts to deepen collaboration with stakeholders in the manufacturing sector, foster sustainable industrial development, and reform the state’s revenue collection processes.

He stressed the government’s dedication to building a thriving industrial sector, especially through infrastructure upgrades and support for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). He also highlighted the state’s plan to promote local production of items such as “Gari Oyo” and turmeric, with the goal of making them competitive in local and international markets.

“The ministry sees MAN as a key partner in identifying and supporting producers engaged in value-added production,” Adebisi said. “We are also working closely with the Nigerian Export Promotion Council and invite MAN to join us in this collaboration.”

He added that Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration remains committed to the welfare of factory workers and has put systems in place, including the creation of an Industrial Crisis Management Committee, to address labour concerns.

On tax matters, Adebisi reiterated the state’s willingness to work with manufacturers to design inclusive and equitable policies. He also called for the provision of accurate industry data to facilitate direct engagement with relevant stakeholders.

In response, representatives of MAN from Oyo, Osun, Ondo, and Ekiti states, including Samuel Olawoyin and Sebastine Shuiabu, commended the state government’s initiative and stressed the need for policies that encourage industrial growth without overburdening businesses.

MAN’s Executive Secretary, Nanzing Rimdan, assured the delegation of the association’s readiness to partner with the government to address challenges facing the manufacturing sector, including infrastructure, finance, and regulation.
