A significant number of processed driver’s licences remain uncollected nationwide, with Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory topping the list, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
Recent data reveals that as of 2025, over 256,000 driver’s licences are still waiting to be picked up across Nigeria. Lagos leads with nearly 78,000 unclaimed licences, followed by the FCT with around 34,000, and Enugu with over 24,000.
Other states with notable numbers include Edo (15,916), Imo (12,580), Kaduna (9,395), Delta (8,422), Ogun (8,107), and Oyo (8,849), among others. Several states, however, reported fewer uncollected licences, with some like Kebbi and Jigawa under a thousand.
The FRSC has expressed concern over the rising volume of unclaimed licences, highlighting the administrative challenges it poses. Spokesperson Olusegun Ogungbemide emphasized that all the licences have been processed and are ready for collection.
Motorists who have completed their biometric and documentation requirements are urged to promptly retrieve their licences from designated centers. The corps is actively reaching out to licence holders through multiple communication channels, including SMS reminders, to facilitate collection.
Ogungbemide also stressed that enforcement against unlicensed driving will intensify. He warned that driving with expired temporary permits due to uncollected licences is a traffic violation and carries penalties.
The FRSC remains committed to resolving the backlog and improving the efficiency of the driver’s licence issuance system to ensure road safety across the country.
