One worker was trapped beneath debris following a building collapse in Lagos on Monday, October 26, 2026, while another sustained a hand injury, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).

The agency said it received a distress call about the collapse at 1:44 p.m. and immediately deployed its Beta Team from the Igando Base to the scene.

Upon arrival, responders discovered that one worker remained trapped beneath the debris, while the injured worker had been taken to a hospital before their arrival.

LASEMA said its team, working with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), commenced a coordinated search and rescue operation.

Responders cordoned off the area to prevent further danger as the operation continued.

The Lagos State Government said it would investigate the incident to establish its immediate and underlying causes and determine whether building control regulations had been followed.

LASEMA Responds To Lexus Jeep Accident At Iyana Oworo

Meanwhile, LASEMA reported three other traffic-related incidents across Lagos on Monday.

At about 1:30 a.m., the agency’s Tiger Team from C3 Base responded to an accident involving a Lexus Jeep with registration number BDG 404 KA at Iyana Oworo, along the outward Third Mainland Bridge route.

According to LASEMA, the vehicle somersaulted after the driver reportedly lost control due to reckless driving.

One adult male sustained injuries and had been taken to a hospital before the response team arrived. No death was recorded.

Responders secured the scene, managed traffic and worked with a private tow truck operator to move the damaged vehicle to a lay-by.

The agency said the operation was completed and traffic flow restored.

Brake Failure Leaves Gas Tanker Blocking Epe Road

In another incident, LASEMA’s Whales Team from Epe Base responded to an accident involving an empty gas tanker on Ayetoro Road in Epe.

The tanker, with registration number T30015LA, reportedly suffered brake failure while climbing the hilly Paramount Road near Okeabata Junction.

The vehicle veered into the road median and obstructed about 97 per cent of the roadway. No casualties were recorded.

The response team, working with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service’s Okeoso Station, secured the scene and arranged for a private tow van to recover the tanker.

Broken-Down Truck Disrupts Rail Movement In Oshodi

LASEMA also responded to a truck that broke down on a railway track at Arena, Oshodi, obstructing train movement.

The agency said the truck was conveying goods when a mechanical failure involving its propeller caused it to stop on the track. Its registration number was unknown.

The Beta Eagle Team from Cappa Base worked with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and soldiers to divert traffic and remove the obstruction.

Responders deployed LASEMA’s heavy-duty recovery equipment, known as Super Metro, to move the truck to a safe lay-by.

The agency said the operation was completed, restoring both rail and road movements.

Lagos Government Urges Compliance With Safety Regulations

The Lagos State Government, under Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, commended LASEMA and the collaborating agencies for their response to the incidents.

“The administration remains resolutely committed to the protection of lives and property and continues to invest in a world-class emergency management system that guarantees prompt response at all times,” the statement said.

The government urged developers, property owners and contractors to comply with building regulations and engage certified professionals for demolition and construction projects.

It also advised motorists to avoid reckless driving and maintain their vehicles regularly.

Residents were encouraged to report emergencies through the state’s toll-free emergency numbers.
