As part of activities marking his 100 days in office, Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has initiated the dualisation of the 27.5-kilometre Igbokoda–Okitipupa road.
This significant infrastructure project aims to enhance connectivity and stimulate economic growth across the Southern Senatorial District of the state.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony held in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government Area, Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized the project’s alignment with the federal government’s vision for the Marine and Blue Economy. He highlighted that the road’s development is crucial for the proposed Ondo Deep Seaport, approved during the previous administration, and will serve as a catalyst for the state’s maritime and economic advancement.
The governor stated, “This dualisation is not just about improving transportation; it is about unlocking the immense potential within our maritime corridor.” He assured residents, development partners, and investors of the state’s readiness to fulfill all requirements needed to position Ondo State as a premier destination for investment, tourism, and improved quality of life.
Engr. Abiola Olawoye, Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Lands, and Housing, provided technical details of the project. He described the road as 27.5 kilometres in length, with a 9.3-metre carriageway, 1.5-metre walkways on both sides, and provisions for utility services. The project also includes hydraulic structures to manage water flow, ensuring durability and resilience.
Local government chairmen, traditional rulers, and community members expressed appreciation for the governor’s commitment to infrastructure development. The project contractor, Mr. Abdul Gorey, pledged timely and quality delivery of the road, reinforcing the administration’s dedication to progressive development and improved living standards for the people of Ondo State.
