Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has submitted a list of 12 individuals to the State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation as members of the State Executive Council.
The nomination was conveyed in an official letter addressed to the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, and delivered on Thursday. The request, titled “Confirmation of Commissioner Nominees,” was made in line with constitutional provisions guiding appointments into the State Executive Council.
This development was confirmed in a statement released by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, in Akure.
In the letter, Aiyedatiwa referenced Section 192 (1 & 2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers a sitting governor to appoint commissioners, subject to legislative approval. He called on the lawmakers to give urgent consideration to the nominees in order to strengthen governance in the state.
Notably, several of the nominees had previously served in the cabinet of the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, signaling a degree of continuity in the state’s leadership structure.
