The Ogun State House of Assembly has summoned the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, and the contractor handling the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway project, Craneburg Construction Company, to appear before it over the persistent traffic gridlock along the Toll Gate and Papalanto/Ewekoro axis of the road.
The lawmakers directed both parties to appear before the House on Tuesday, October 28, at 2:00 p.m. to discuss possible solutions to the worsening traffic situation caused by the ongoing construction works.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, issued the directive following submissions by former Speaker Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo and Majority Leader Yusuf Sherrif, who drew attention to the increasing delays and inconvenience faced by motorists along the route.
They also expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of certain portions of the expressway despite recent repairs, warning that the situation had grown beyond the control of the State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE).
In a separate development, the Assembly passed a resolution urging the government to revive and establish functional sick bays in all public primary and secondary schools across the state.
The motion, sponsored by Hon. Damilola Soneye, was supported by the Majority Leader, Yusuf Sherrif, and unanimously adopted by other lawmakers. Soneye explained that the move would help provide immediate medical attention, ensure early diagnosis, and reduce health risks among students.
Several members, including Honourables Olakunle Sobukanla, Yusuf Amosun, Babatunde Tella, Damilare Bello, Waliu Owode, Oluseun Adesanya, and Lukman Adeleye, supported the call, stressing the need for qualified health professionals to manage the facilities.
The Assembly further urged the Ministries of Health and Education, Science and Technology to work together in formulating a comprehensive school health policy. It also recommended the employment of graduates from the Ogun State Polytechnic of Health Technology, Ilese, to staff the sick bays, while encouraging private schools to set up first-aid units and health clinics within their premises.
