Obaseki Named World Class Returnees’ Shelter After Daisy Danjuma

Newly constructed world class shelter for victims of human trafficking and irregular migration in Benin City, has been named after after Senator Daisy Danjuma by Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, in recognition of her immense contribution to the state government’s efforts in empowering the downtrodden in society.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, in a press statement issued in Benin City, on Tuesday, said: “Senator Daisy Danjuma is a trailblazer in politics, governance and an unrelenting champion of good governance and a campaigner for equal opportunities for all Nigerians.”
Osagie added: “She is a role model to our youths, especially young girls and women. Her sagacity, her heart of gold, her bold and courageous foray into politics and the resulting impact she made as Senator representing Edo South Senatorial District in the Senate, are ready points of reference by young people and adults, who are determined to breakthrough some man-made barriers and attain similar heights.

“In addition, Senator Danjuma has extended succor to millions of disadvantage people through several personal initiatives and in partnership with the TY Danjuma Foundation, which is committed to enhancing the quality of life of Nigerians by supporting initiatives that improve access to health and educational opportunities.”
The governor’s aide further said that “by naming this facility after Senator Danjuma, the Edo State Government is making a strong statement that victims of human trafficking and illegal migration can overcome their current situation and challenges and become whatever they wish to become.”
The Edo State world class Shelter for victims of human trafficking and irregular migration stands on 1.9 hectare of land. It is located in a well spacious and serene environment, at No. 5 Aideyan Crescent, GRA, Benin City. It has nine built up structures, which comprises of.

According to the state government, “the shelter will serve as a home, a place of recovery and total rehabilitation of victims of human trafficking and irregular migrants.
“It has well equipped clinic and counseling block, with capacity to cater for ten in-patients at a time. The Clinic will be open to every person housed within the shelter. It will handle cases of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder and minor medical conditions and will be manned by trained medical personnel and trained counsellors.
“Other facilities within the building are an administrative block, a hundred-seats capacity hall and skills acquisition rooms, male and female hostels, indoor sports hall and an investigation and prosecution unit block, cafeteria, dinning/kitchen area, care givers’ block, a football pitch and a security house.
“It has its own electric transformer, a giant plant and a backup generator to guarantee constant power supply at all times as well as a borehole for steady water supply.”
