The National President of Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP) Tpl. Lekwa O. Ezutah on Thursday 30/1/2020 visited the corporate office of the Abuja International Housing Show (AIHS) to express the professional body interest to partner AIHS in the area of housing development advocacy and in the hosting of the 2020 edition of AIHS.
The President also declared the interest of the institute to have a day that will be tagged “liveable city day” to discuss issues relating to development of our cities at the International housing show.
He said that NITP is interested in meeting with other stakeholders in the building industry at the Show to discuss how to make our cities more liveable at the 14th AIHS scheduled to hold between July21st -25th at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.
While receiving the NITP President, the coordinator of AIHS, Barrister Festus Adebayo said the partnership is a good development in moving the housing sector forward.
He said, “We have been looking for an avenue to partner with town planners because we can’t be talking of housing without bringing town planners to the fore front. They are in charge of the first process before you begin construction. You can’t just be building houses without the town planners going there first and do its own part.”
Adebayo assured that the AIHS will do its best to create awareness on town planning on all its media platforms – radio, and TV inclusive.
The NITP is Nigeria’s leading planning body for spatial, sustainable, integrative and inclusive planning. The NITP exists to advance the science and art of planning for the benefit of the public. The Institute produced a Constitution soon after its inaugural meeting in 1996.
NITP aims/mission is to see man as the beneficiary of all developmental activities and to ensure for him an environment which is liveable, healthy, friendly, efficient and economically viable, through ethical, professional training and practices that is responsive to the needs and societal dynamics.
Tpl. Lekwa O. Ezutah is the 23rd National President of Nigerian Institute of Town Planners.
