The president of Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS), Mohammed Abba Tor, has called on quantity surveyors to imbibe team spirit and collaborative culture in discharging their responsibilities.
He made the call at a 2-day National Executive Council (NEC) and chapter chairmen leadership retreat, organised by the institute in Abuja with the theme, “Rebranding as a Philosophy of Change”.
At the retreat which provided an avenue for the cross-fertilization of ideas by the new NEC in order to chart a way forward for the Institute, Tor said the tenure of the current NEC was unique as the institute marked its 50 years of existence last year.
The President was optimistic that if change is carefully guided and nurtured it could lead to new opportunities for members and enhance long-term prosperity for the profession.
According to him, “We shall witness a lot of changes in methodologies, processes and procedures in carrying out our duties, which will be premised on corporate governance”. In his presentation on corporate governance, Mr Henry Akpan of Media Range Ltd, noted that enhanced performance, achievement of set objectives, better talent and resource utilisation, reduction of wastages, were part of the advantages of good corporate governance.
