ABUJA, 21/01/2021 – The Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS) has moved into its new purpose-built head office, located in the Mabushi District of the nation’s capital city, Abuja.

Welcoming members of the press to the new building on Thursday, 21st January, 2021, President of the Institute, QS Mohammed Abba Tor, FNIQS, said, “This is a functional, well-designed, purpose-built office complex, which befits the status of the NIQS as a professional body that has been in existence for over 50 years.”

He added that this edifice “is one of the fundamental strategies of the NIQS in ensuring that the next years is anchored on solid foundation which signals our commitment to our esteemed members and the wider society”.

The NIQS President also used the occasion to urge the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) “to speed up the construction of the link road along NIQS Crescent, in order to ease accessibility to stimulate social and economic activities in the area.”

Acknowledging the contribution made by his immediate predecessor in office, QS Obafemi O. Onashile FNIQS, who is currently the President of African Association of Quantity Surveyors, as well as all other past leaders of the Institute towards actualising the dream of a befitting head office, QS Abba Tor said, “The work they did, and which the current National Executive Council continued tirelessly and diligently in ensuring that all the outstanding items were concluded, is the reason we are able to occupy our own head office today.”

He also thanked the secretariat staff of the Institute for independently developing a relocation plan and following it through to the very end.

QS Abba Tor also told the audience present at the occasion that the NIQS is currently undergoing a rebranding process to improve service delivery to its members as well as the general public. He said, “The rebranding project is supported by the following components: Digitization of our operations, retraining of staff, enhanced marketing effort, acquisition of modern technology, tools and techniques: and the provision of a more conserve water environment.”

According to the NIQS President, moving into the new head office building marked a critical milestone in the Institute’s rebranding labelling efforts as it satisfied the component of providing a conducive working environment for members of the National Executive Council, Organs and staff of the Institute.

He added that the five storey has a dedicated transformer, standby generators, ample packing space, and an independent water facility.

According to QS Abba Tor, the NIQS is already occupying the ground and fourth floors of the new building while the first floor has been reserved for the regulatory body, Quantity Surveyors Registration Board of Nigeria (QSRBN), in the spirit of mutual cooperation and collaboration. Meanwhile, the second and third floors are available for lease to interested parties. Also available is an elaborate Training Room that could be rented by NIQS members and the general public for training, Arbitration sessions and other similar purposes.
