The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) expects a dynamic weather pattern across Nigeria from Monday, June 23 to Wednesday, June 25. The outlook shows a mixture of sunshine, overcast skies, and isolated thunderstorms, varying by region and time of day.
In the northern states, residents can start their days under mostly clear skies, though afternoon and evening will likely bring scattered thunderstorms and moderate rainfall. This pattern is consistent across the central region, which will also experience morning sunshine before clouds thicken and showers develop later in the day affecting areas such as Plateau, Benue, FCT, Kwara, and Niger.
Meanwhile, southern Nigeria will experience overcast conditions early in the day, with the likelihood of morning rain especially in Akwa Ibom transitioning into afternoon and evening thunderstorms and moderate to heavy rainfall across multiple states, including Lagos and Rivers.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, the trend continues nationwide, with thunderstorms developing later in the day after morning sunshine or cloudiness.
NiMet cautions that thunderstorms may be accompanied by strong winds. Safety guidance includes securing loose outdoor items, avoiding driving in heavy rain, unplugging electrical appliances during storms, and steering clear of tall trees to reduce risk from falling branches. Airline operators are advised to check airport-specific weather forecasts for flight planning.
As the country moves through this changing weather cycle, staying updated with NiMet’s advisories via their official website and public channels will ensure better preparation and response to potential disruptions caused by storm activity.
