Nigeria’s First Wood Expo Set for October

The maiden edition of Wood Expo is schedule to hold between 21st – 24th October, 2019 at Sheraton Hotel Abuja, Nigeria.

The expo put together by top professionals in Nigeria’s building and construction Industry is themed: FOREST TO WEALTH

According to the convener and project coordinator, Arc. Bose Idegbesor, who spoke with Housing News, Wood Expo Nigeria aims to promote the entrepreneurial activities in the wood sector for national economic growth and enhance the value added opportunities in line with the National Economic Recovery Growth Plan (NERGP 2017 – 2020) to diversify the economy resulting in development of the various sectors, with wood being one of them.

She said the Expo is about exploring the potentials and the use of wood in Nigeria, and that the wood sector is a place where the country needs to focus on right now.

On the categories of participants, she said “Government Stakeholders, Architects, Engineers, Interior Designers, Furniture Manufacturers, Builders, Developers, Contractors, Academicians, Private Sector, Public Sector, Homemakers and every stakeholder along that value chain is expected to attend the event.’’

According to her, ‘’one of the benefits of the expo is to promote the whole wood story from seed collection, through planting and forest propagation, felling and milling to the end product.

‘’Most of our forests are being depleted. From discussions we have had with stakeholders, there is inadequate wood for furniture, we need to start Creating more Awareness and Advocacy in the sector. Even if we have to export, we need to replant. The expo will also sensitize the interest of Professionals and the general public by investing in the wood sector.

“The platform will be a convergence point for wood specialist those who do business in wood and wood product sector, supplier, manufacturers, machinery companies to show case their products,’’ she said.

Another component of the expo will be discussion sessions bordering on major topics that are affecting the sector. The session will look at the Role of Research and academic in the development of the wood sector, Overview of the Nigeria Wood Resource Sustainability of the wood sector and Development of the Wood product sector.

Major partners and collaborators for the expo includes Raw Materials Research Development Council, Ministry of Trade and Investment and many more.

Companies including Four brothers, Wood Et Al and others will be leading the exhibitors.

Wood Expo Nigeria has emerged as a must attend event for a wide range of wood industry players, including timber and wood working machinery traders, Professional bodies and Government Stakeholders. The Event provides the perfect platform to meet the potential business partners and suppliers – Business to Business meeting and special features such as Wood Expo discussion session to allow maximization of the networking and business potential the event presents.
