The Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) has announced that the 29th summit (NES 29) will focus on finding workable solutions to Nigeria’s economic challenges. The summit, which is scheduled to take place in October 2023, will be themed “Pathways for Sustainable Economic Transformation and Inclusion.”

The NESG said that Nigeria is currently facing a number of economic challenges, including rising unemployment, income inequality, and multidimensional poverty. These challenges are exacerbated by uneven resource allocation, macroeconomic instability, and institutional weaknesses.

In 2022, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) found that 62.9% of Nigerians live in multidimensional poverty. This means that they lack access to basic necessities such as food, shelter, education, and healthcare.

The NESG said that “Nigeria’s current trajectory highlights the need to prioritize long-term development and shared prosperity.”

The group expressed satisfaction with the current administration’s 8-point agenda, which is aimed at stimulating economic growth and reducing poverty. However, the NESG said that more needs to be done to ensure that the benefits of economic growth are shared by all Nigerians.
