The National Assembly has reopened the office of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, months after it was sealed following her suspension.
Her office, located at Suite 2.05 in the Senate Wing, was unsealed on Tuesday morning by the Sergeant-at-Arms, Alabi Adedeji, with support from security operatives. A video clip showed Adedeji removing the red seal and declaring the office open for use.
The office had remained locked since March 6, when the lawmaker was suspended from the Senate for six months over alleged misconduct linked to her protest against the reassignment of her seat by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Although her suspension officially lapsed in September, Akpoti-Uduaghan faced resistance from Senate leadership, which declined her initial request to resume duties. In July, however, the Federal High Court in Abuja ruled that the suspension was unconstitutional and excessive.
It is still unclear whether Tuesday’s action fully restores her rights to resume legislative duties. The Senate has yet to issue a formal resolution on her status, leaving questions about whether she will return to plenary when lawmakers reconvene on October 7.
