The Nasarawa State Government has officially completed the construction of the Lafia Flyover and Underpass , an infrastructure initiative valued at over ₦16 billion ahead of a formal commissioning ceremony anticipated to be led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Governor Abdullahi Sule, accompanied by prominent stakeholders in the state, confirmed on Monday that the flyover and underpass are now operational. He emphasized the project’s timely readiness as part of a broader set of infrastructural milestones expected to be inaugurated during President Tinubu’s upcoming visit.
“We have extended an invitation to President Tinubu to commission several completed projects, including our new state secretariat, the Lafia Flyover and Underpass, and the newly dualised 5-kilometer Shendam Road,” Governor Sule stated.
He added that these initiatives form part of activities commemorating the second anniversary of President Tinubu’s administration. According to the governor, the flyover and underpass were “technically completed” and have now been opened to motorists to test performance under real-use conditions.
“This early use will help us identify any possible structural issues, such as cracks or surface flaws, in time for corrections before the official opening,” Sule explained. “Even in the absence of faults, we plan to temporarily shut down the road for a final surface layer and road markings before the President’s arrival.”
He also noted that finishing touches particularly on structural wall features and landscaping would continue alongside normal traffic use to avoid delays.
The Lafia Flyover and Underpass were launched under the administration of the All Progressives Congress (APC), reflecting the state government’s commitment to improving road infrastructure and easing traffic congestion in the capital city.
President Tinubu is expected in Nasarawa by June for the high-profile commissioning event, which will spotlight the state’s achievements under the APC-led government.
