Residents of Loburo, a community in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, are breathing a sigh of relief as long awaited road and drainage construction works finally begin.

The development comes after months of complaints by residents and business owners about the deplorable state of the community’s major road, which had become nearly impassable, especially during the rainy season.

Years of Neglect Give Way to Action

The ongoing project links different parts of Loburo to the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway and adjoining communities.
According to findings over the weekend, work began recently after repeated public appeals from residents.

A community leader, Elder Alokan, confirmed that construction started with drainage works to control flooding and improve road durability.

“The drainage construction started last week. It’s not the community doing it ,the project is being handled by Senator Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), who represents our district,” he said.

“We’ve been appealing to the government since last year without success, but Senator Yayi has now come to our aid. This isn’t about politics; he’s simply fulfilling his duty.”

Drainage First, Then Road Construction

An engineer at the site explained that the project includes both road rehabilitation and drainage construction.

“We’re starting with the drainage so the road will last longer. It’s part of the senator’s effort to improve infrastructure in this community,” he said.

Mixed Feelings Among Residents

Some residents and traders said the construction has temporarily disrupted their businesses, but many agree the long-term benefits outweigh the inconvenience.

A trader, Omowunmi, said, “Business is slow for now because of the construction, but when the road is completed, it will help everyone especially traders like us.”

Another resident, Kola, added that the project also includes solar streetlights.

“We were told solar lights will be installed after the roadwork. The senator is also working in nearby areas like Ibafo and Orimerumu,” he said.

Senator’s Office Confirms Project

The Special Assistant on New Media to Senator Adeola, Damilare Oloyede, confirmed that the Loburo project is part of a wider set of infrastructure initiatives across the district.

“I can confirm that the road, like several others, is being reconstructed through the efforts of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola,” he said.

“He’s committed to attracting more government projects in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at improving the lives of Nigerians.”

A Step Toward Better Infrastructure

As of the time of filing this report, heavy machinery was still working at the site, and drainage construction was ongoing.

The Loburo project offers new hope for residents who have endured years of bad roads and flooding  and stands as a welcome development amid wider calls for improved infrastructure across Ogun State.
