The Lagos State Government has called on residents in the Ikeja axis to support the forthcoming upgrade of major junctions, particularly in the Toyin/Opebi/Allen and Adebola/Salvation areas, as part of the Right of Way (RoW) improvement works.

The government emphasized the importance of this cooperation during a meeting held at the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA) Headquarters in Ikeja, which was attended by business owners, residents, and government officials.

Hon. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, emphasized the significance of an inclusive approach to the project. He stressed that the involvement of community leaders, residents, and business owners is crucial for the success of the project. Osiyemi urged for understanding and support from all stakeholders, particularly during the RoW phase, which may require the removal of encroaching structures.

The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Office of Physical Planning, Engr. Oluwole Soire, reiterated the need for residents’ cooperation to ensure the smooth execution of the Right of Way. He explained that the junction improvement works were part of the Model City Plan, taking into account factors such as population growth and land use changes, as well as ongoing projects like the Opebi-Odo Iya Alaro link bridge.

In line with the state’s T.H.E.M.E.S+ Agenda, which promotes socio-economic development, Soire further highlighted the collaborative efforts between the Ministries of Physical Planning and Transportation. These improvements are intended to enhance urban planning and traffic management, particularly in the context of the growing population in Ikeja and surrounding areas.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Olawale Musa, explained that the junction upgrades are vital for urban development and the delivery of rights of way. He also stressed that stakeholder engagement would play an essential role in the project, providing valuable insights and addressing the concerns of residents and business owners.

Engr. Adebayo Osomo, a Director in the Ministry of Transportation, emphasized that these upgrades would complement the ongoing Odo Iya Alaro/Opebi link bridge project, improving traffic flow and connectivity in the region.

Tpl. Daisi Oso, General Manager of the Lagos State Planning and Environmental Management Authority (LASPEMA), urged residents to adhere to regulations concerning incidental open spaces, which will help maintain order during the project’s execution.

Business owners and residents in the affected areas expressed their support for the much-needed upgrades, although they called for swift completion and fair compensation where applicable. The project is expected to significantly improve traffic management and urban infrastructure in Ikeja and its surrounding areas.
