Dogs and other pet owners in Lagos State would have to register their pets once the Bill for a law to regulate the ownership, licensing, care and sale of pets is passed by members of the state House of Assembly.

The proposed bill also seeks to prohibit or restrict persons from having custody of animals dangerous to the public and where permitted, to license, control and regulate the custody of such animals.

This was disclosed at a day public hearing organised by the House Committee on Agriculture, held at the House of Assembly Pavilion in Alausa, Ikeja on Thursday evening.

In his keynote address, the Deputy Speaker of the House, Hon. Wasiu Eshinlokun-Sanni, who represented the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, said that the essence of the public hearing was to have the input of the people so that the essence of the bill could be realized.

The proposed Bill, he said, is sacred in nature for the fulfillment of divine commandments on human beings.
