In a significant push to enhance transportation and infrastructure, the Lagos State Government has completed the construction of 61 roads spanning over 56 kilometers and five new bridges within the last 12 months.
This development was revealed during a ministerial press briefing held at Alausa, Ikeja, as part of activities marking the second anniversary of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term in office. Special Adviser on Infrastructure, Olufemi Daramola, highlighted the administration’s continued commitment to modernizing the state’s road network despite economic pressures.
According to Daramola, beyond the roads already delivered, work is ongoing on 147 additional road and bridge projects scattered across various parts of Lagos, reflecting a sustained momentum in infrastructure investment.
“Our pace has not slowed. From patching potholes to launching major bridge networks, we’re delivering on our promise to build a more connected Lagos,” he stated.
Daramola also disclosed that the Lagos State Public Works Corporation had carried out maintenance and repairs on 1,074 roads, totaling more than 78 kilometers in length. These works included sectional upgrades, overlay resurfacing, and pothole patching. Additionally, 218 drainage channels, covering 462 kilometers, were cleared or rehabilitated to improve water flow and mitigate flooding.
In the digital infrastructure space, the Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency (LASIMRA) has intensified its fibre optic duct rollout. Daramola announced that 3,000 kilometers of fibre ducts have already been laid, with another 2,700 kilometers planned. This expansion is backed by a $22 million foreign direct investment, aimed at boosting internet connectivity across the state.
Despite global and national economic headwinds, particularly those felt between May 2024 and 2025, Daramola expressed pride in the administration’s resilience. Since December 2024, the state has successfully commissioned 33 road projects, with more in the pipeline.
The projects, he said, align with the THEMES+ development agenda, particularly the “T” pillar Traffic Management and Transportation which prioritizes efficient movement and infrastructure innovation.
Notable projects include the reconstruction of a pedestrian bridge at Estate Gate in Alapere, Ketu, and the Abiola-Onijemo Link Road and Bridge in Ifako-Ijaiye. In Ikoyi and Victoria Island, works have been completed on Oyinkan Abayomi Drive, Macpherson Avenue, Ilabere Road, Ilu Road, and Inupa Road.
In Alimosho, the government also delivered the Babafemi Dada road network, including Yinka Folarin, Jamiu Lawal, and Shalom Academy roads, complete with a bridge to improve local access and mobility.
“These projects reflect the state’s determination to deliver lasting infrastructure that meets the demands of its growing population,” Daramola said. “We are not just building roads—we’re laying the groundwork for future growth.”
