The Lagos State Government has announced a traffic diversion plan ahead of the commencement of major repairs on the Ogudu/Ifako Bridge, scheduled to begin on June 28 and last until October 15, 2025 a total of 110 days.
Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, revealed in a statement on Tuesday that the long-postponed repair work will now proceed in eight distinct phases, with both carriageways undergoing maintenance.
According to Osiyemi, phases one through four will address the inbound Alapere section of the bridge and are expected to run from June 28 to August 16. The final four phases, focusing on the inbound Oworonshoki stretch, will follow immediately and conclude on October 5.
To ease congestion during the partial closures, motorists are advised to make use of designated alternative routes. For instance, during the first phase, drivers heading from Iyana Oworo are encouraged to reroute through Gbagada to connect to Anthony and access Ikorodu Road, ensuring a smoother commute.
Similarly, during the second phase, those approaching from Eko Bridge are advised to use Funsho Williams Avenue to link up with Ikorodu Road.
Although one lane will remain partially accessible around the work zone specifically 50 metres before and after the repair site traffic flow is expected to be disrupted, prompting authorities to deploy Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) personnel to strategic points to assist in managing congestion and maintaining order.
Osiyemi called for public understanding and patience throughout the repair period, assuring that the effort aims to improve road safety and infrastructure durability in the long term.
