• As Coalition Engages Stakeholders On Girl-child Education
Kebbi State Government has approved N4.5b for construction and renovations of schools across the state.
This was disclosed, yesterday, by the Executive Secretary, Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Hassan Umar, when he received the Civil Society Action Coalition and Education for All (CSACEFA) in his office.
“We have already started the process.We have contract specifications and told contractors to do quality job. We have guidelines on the execution of the projects,” he said.
Also, the Civil Society Action Coalition and Education for All (CSACEFA) in collaboration with Malala Foundation COVID-19 Intervention project, engaged stakeholders to promote girl-child education in rural communities in the state.
Speaking, yesterday, in Birnin Kebbi, the Coordinator, Ibrahim Ngasky, said engaging communities leader on girl-child enrolment in schools would go a long way in promoting education.
He expressed dismay that some local councils visited lacked adequate female teachers, infrastructure, as well as low enrolment of girls.
Meanwhile, Umar said no fewer than 758 primary school teachers were undergoing training on methodologies to impact more knowledge on students.
Ngasky added that they engaged community leaders on enrolments of the girl-child in schools.
“Recently, we paid an advocacy visit to Local Education Authorities of Kalgo and Maiyama local councils, as well as traditional and religious leaders; school-based management committees; mother’s association of the two councils and discovered challenges on non-enrollment of girl-child in schools…” he said.
He also lamented that some parents didn’t want to register their children in schools because of lack of conducive learning environment, insecurity, inadequate teachers and lack of teaching aid and materials.
A parent, Alhaji Hassan Umar urged government to provide facilities to make learning attractive to children.
