The Kano State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has commended the appointment of former Kano NUJ Chairman, Comrade Abbas Ibrahim, as a National Trustee of the union, describing it as both timely and well-deserved.
In a statement jointly signed by the Acting Chairman of the Council, Comrade Mustapha Gambo Muhammad, and the Council Secretary, Abubakar Shehu Kwaru, the union praised the decision made by NUJ National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, and his deputy, Dr. Abimbola Oyetunde.
The council noted that Comrade Abbas’s appointment reflects his years of dedicated service and significant contributions to the growth of journalism, particularly in Kano State. According to the council, his time as chairman transformed the Kano NUJ into a respected pillar within the national journalism community.
“His selfless leadership made the Kano NUJ Council a shining star in the journalism profession across Nigeria,” the statement read.
The council expressed confidence that Abbas’s experience, leadership qualities, and commitment to the ideals of the profession would be an asset to the national leadership of the union. They called on him to bring the same energy, wisdom, and vision that defined his work in Kano into his new national role.
“We are confident that Comrade Abbas Ibrahim will contribute significantly to the success of the NUJ, which has long served as the voice of the voiceless in Nigeria,” the statement added.
Prayers were also offered for guidance and protection for Comrade Abbas and other members of the National Working Committee as they take on new responsibilities within the union.
Describing the appointment as a reflection of the national body’s trust and affection not only for Abbas but for the entire Kano NUJ community, the council concluded by stating its full support and belief in his ability to help reposition and elevate the NUJ to greater heights.
