Jigawa State Government has undertook a comprehensive education overhaul, restoring 587 flood-damaged schools and recruiting 3,420 additional teachers over the past two years. This was announced by the Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Yusif Chamo, in Dutse.
Prof. Chamo provided a detailed breakdown of the recruitment drive with 1,100 new teachers under the “J‑Teach” programme, 72 university graduates with degrees, 149 top-performing first-class graduates, all granted permanent positions.
Additionally, the ministry has redeployed over 2,200 degree‑holder educators from the Basic Education Board to strengthen staffing within tertiary institutions and enhance pedagogical quality.
To further boost teacher capability in core disciplines, English, Mathematics, and Science the government has held 15 targeted training workshops, also extending professional development to school heads to improve leadership and administrative effectiveness.
State-wide instructional support also included distribution of modern teaching materials such as whiteboards and pens, alongside renovations of regional education offices and fencing upgrades for approximately 120 schools to strengthen safety and infrastructure .
