As part of measures aimed at stemming the rising cases of criminality and security challenges in the state, the Lagos State government has vowed to seal off all abandoned and uncompleted buildings that are not properly managed by its owners.

Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako who disclosed this in a statement on Friday stated that the decision has become necessary due to the security situation in the country, as some hoodlums and social miscreants have continued to convert abandoned and construction sites to their safe haven, thereby perpetuating mischiefs that pose a serious threat to the sanity and sanctity of the state.

He therefore, enjoined all its residents to adhere strictly to the laid down conditions, as defaulters shall see their building sealed off and further action is taken where necessary.

Dr. Idris listed the conditions to include: All Owners/ Developer of any uncompleted or existing buildings shall at all times ensure that the property is in proper environmental conditions; that no abandoned building will be allowed for security and safety reasons; and no construction worker should remain on the premises of buildings undergoing construction beyond 6 pm daily.

The State Commissioner, therefore, warned that any developer/ Owners who failed to comply with its directive within 30 days would have their building sealed off and further sanctions will be meted out.
