Housing Stakeholders Drum Support To End Nigeria’s Housing Deficit

In a bid to proffer solutions to the lingering housing problem in Nigeria especially in urban centers, the Association of Housing Corporations of Nigeria (AHCN) will be organising a 2-day National Workshop with the aim to stimulate appropriate strategies to facilitate affordable housing for low and medium income group amidst unfriendly climate in Nigeria’s housing sector.

In a Press release signed by the Executive Secretary to the Association, Toye Eniola, the Association noted that the move was motivated by the founding objectives of the association which is anchored on delivering affordable housing through public-private partnership with housing stakeholders.

The theme for the workshop; “Housing deficit and the challenges of low income earners in Nigeria”, was designed to reposition housing agencies on the need to be awake and take advantage while maximizing inherent opportunities in provision of mass housing for low income earners in Nigeria.

Speakers at the event include the Director General of Nigeria Building and Road Research Institute, Prof. Samson Duna and Sir Joseph N. Ari, the Director General of Industrial Training Fund, the Chairman Abegyi Cooperative, Arc Auta Emmanuel, The Chairman of the Plateau State Economic Team, Mr Nde Ezekiel Gomos amongst others.

The Commissioner for Housing in Plateau Sate, Zulfa Rimven as well as his counterpart in the Ministry of Lands, Survey and Town Planning, Yakubu Datti will also be speaking at the event.

Major housing stakeholders and decision makers in the housing sector are expected to participate in the workshop which would also provide avenue for major players in the sector to rub minds and proffer appropriate modalities for facilitating affordable housing for the vulnerable Nigerians.

The workshop will address among others; The Use of Local Building Material As Panacea for Addressing Housing Deficit and Affordability, Public Private Partnership and the task of Land Administrators in enhancing the provision of Affordable Housing for Low and Medium Income Group,  Affordable Housing model using the instrument of Cooperative, The Role of Housing Corporations in Addressing Housing Deficit of the Low and Medium Income Group, Maximizing Available Opportunities in Facilitating  Low and Medium  Income Home Ownership Scheme.

The National Workshop which is combined with the 108th Council meeting of the Association, is scheduled to hold on Tuesday 29th to Wednesday 30th March, 2022 at Silk Suite Hotel, Rayfield, Jos, Plateau State while the council meeting, takes place on Thursday 31st  March at the same venue.
