Heavy Downpour Claims Four Accident Victims, Others In Bauchi

A heavy downpour on Friday night has led to a fatal motor accident which claimed the lives of Four persons in Toro LGA along the ever-busy Bauchi – Jos road in Bauchi State.

In the accident which occurred in the evening while the rain was falling heavily, many other passengers were injured with varying degrees and are receiving treatment at the Toro General Hospital where they were rushed to.

Reports have it that the accident involved two Opel Vectra commercial cars that were coming from on opposite directions and had a head-on collision due to poor visibility caused by the heavy rainfall thereby leading to the death of the deceased persons on the spot.

It was gathered that the four people who lost their lives in the fatal accident are businessmen, selling goods at Bauchi Central Market in Bauchi metropolis and were returning from Jos where they had gone on a business trip.

Aside from the accident that claimed four lives while others were injured, there are Unconfirmed reports that many other persons also lost their lives while scores of properties were destroyed aftermath of the heavy rainfall that last over three hours.

As of the time of filing this report, there has not been any official statement from concerned authorities while efforts to get officials of NEMA and other agencies proved abortive as the line of the Permanent Secretary in charged did not go through.

The areas most affected by the flood are Doya, Bakaro, Gombe road and part of new layout behind the railway station in Bauchi.

Some of the affected persons said that the rain started normally but later became a heavy downpour which caught unawares, calling on the government to come to their aid.
